We pride ourselves on the safety and welfare of our guests. We want you to feel safe so you can enjoy your time at the festival. We want to create a happy, safe and exciting space but it can also sometimes be overwhelming.
Getting enough sleep, eating regularly and pacing yourself are key if you want to be on top form. Respect one another and look out for each other.
If someone is in need of assistance or you witness any anti-social behaviour please alert a member of festival staff. If something or someone makes you feel uncomfortable, no matter how small it seems, you can report it to a member of the festival staff.
Our experienced security are onsite around the clock to ensure your safety and peace of mind. Whilst their primary role is to oversee the festival’s security operation they are also there to assist with any concerns, and provide non-judgemental support whenever needed. Whether it’s answering a question, reuniting lost items, or lending a helping hand, they’re always ready to assist.
Easily Recognisable and Approachable
Security can be easily identified by their high-visibility vests (Hi-Vis) and are stationed throughout the festival grounds, including key areas like campsites, entry points, within the arena and at all stages. They’re not just there to monitor—they’re your go-to for guidance, reassurance, and friendly support.
Campsite Security
Campsites are a hub of activity, and we understand the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment for all campers. That’s why we have security teams specifically positioned in and around every campsite, acting as the eyes and ears on the ground. Whether it’s keeping an eye out for any issues or providing assistance, they’re there to ensure you feel secure throughout your stay.
Keeping Your Possessions Safe
While we work hard to maintain a secure environment, we encourage attendees to take care of their personal belongings. Bring only what you need, use the festival’s secure storage options if available, and always keep your valuables close.
Entry Checks for Everyone’s Safety
To ensure the safety of all attendees, we carry out a thorough search at all entry points, the process and policy for this search is agreed with Devon and Cornwall Police during the planning stages of the festival each year. The search operation at each entry gate is overseen by our dedicated security teams and gate supervisors and will include bag searches, pat downs, use of metal detection wands, drug detection dogs and enhanced search areas.
The aim of our search policy is to ensure compliance with our Terms and Conditions of Entry, prevent items on our Prohibited Items list (found in the ‘Prohibited Items’ list below) from entering the festival and most importantly promoting a safe and enjoyable festival for all.
Our aim is to provide a comprehensive medical package to deal with all medical needs during the event. We are committed to minimising the impact on the local health care infrastructure and to treating all patients on site where it is clinically possible to do so.
Our onsite medical team consist of highly trained NHS staff, led by our Medical Director, the team include A&E Doctors, A&E Nurses, Paramedics, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and First Aid/ Responders, all of whom bring their professional expertise to our on-site facilities.
A key component of our medical provision is our on-site hospitals, one in the arena and a larger second facility in the campsites. These are co-located with our welfare facilities allowing for joined up triaging and managing patient needs. Each facility has a reception and waiting area and then a number of dedicated treatment bays & beds. Staffed 24/7, our on-site hospital allows us to provide immediate, quality care, keeping festival-goers well looked after while alleviating demand on nearby medical services.
We have mobile response teams offer additional support, ensuring rapid response and access to care across the festival grounds.
For any cases requiring specialized hospital care, we maintain strong coordination with local hospitals via SWASFT to ensure smooth transfers if needed, link back to ambulance comments above.
With our robust medical setup, including an on-site hospital, NHS-trained staff, and extensive support teams, festivalgoers, parents and families can feel assured that we are fully prepared to respond to any medical situation swiftly and effectively.
Our welfare team’s primary role is to ensure the well-being and safety of everyone on site, no issue is too big or too small just simply visit their tent on site and they will be happy to help.They are not there to make judgements or get you in trouble. Their service is confidential so you can be honest with them about any problems you are experiencing and they will do their best to help you.
Oxfam is our stewarding partner. Their volunteers are key members of the festival staff.
Our stewards work closely with the security teams to ensure you are safe and enjoy your time at the festival.
You will be able to find them throughout the entire festival wearing high visibility jackets.
Events couldn’t run without them so be respectful and always listen to direction.

❌ Food into the main arena (sealed food can be brought into the campsite). If you have a medical condition which requires you to carry food on you for personal consumption, please bring a medical letter or doctor’s note including details of your requirements as you will be asked to present this.
❌ Gas canisters or cylinders (except built into campervans)
❌ Generators (expect those built into campervans)
❌ Glass bottles (excluding perfume bottles 50ml and under into the campsites)
❌ High-vis jackets or unofficial tabards
❌ Illegal substances (psychoactive substances, nitrous oxide or legal highs)
❌ Laser equipment / pointer pens
❌ Spray paint
❌ Professional camera or video recording equipment (including SLRs and anything with a detachable lens)
❌ Spirits (alcohol)
❌ Sound systems exceeding the following size specifications (H: 184mm x D: 73mm e.g. BOOM3, please note, if on a Day Ticket no sound systems are permitted)
❌ Single-use plastic
❌ Portable or disposable barbeques, gas, paraffin lamps, or fire / gas-related cooking equipment
❌ Megaphones, air horns, or compressed air
Stick Together
Stick with your friends. Check-in and make sure you all know each other’s plans and check-in times.
Share Your Location
Use location-sharing services on your mobile device or arrange a meeting point to find each other easily if you are separated – you can do this in the Boardmasters App.
Trust Your Instincts
If something doesn’t feel right, don’t hesitate to remove yourself from the situation. Find a steward or member of security, they are there to help and assist you.
Stay Hydrated & Alert
It’s easy to get dehydrated or tired at a festival, which may make you feel less aware. Bring a reusable water bottle and fill up at one of our water points for free – make hydration stops part of your routine.
Ask for Angela
If you feel threatened, uncomfortable, or in a potentially dangerous situation, speak to a member of staff and ‘ask for Angela’. Our staff are trained to discreetly provide help by removing you from a situation or intervening in an appropriate manner as needed.

This webinar will help you decide whether it’s the right time for your young person to attend a music festival and help you support them on a logistical level to plan their festival experience.

Be a Good Friend
There are things you can do to stay safe and look after each other. Make sure that everyone gets home safely at night and people are not left to walk back to camp on their own.
If anyone in your crew does need help, we have 24 hour support with no judgement.
Be a Helping Hand
If you see someone you don’t know, who looks like they are struggling or needs some help, ask if they are ok or alert a steward or member of event staff. We ask you to call out unacceptable behaviour.

Boardmasters can’t take place without the support of people in the area, so be respectful of local residents who live near festival sites. Treat everyone with respect and remember it is somebody else’s local. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards any kind of antisocial behaviour.

Boardmasters was born out of our desire to give back and support the culture and surrounding communities. We are striving to leave as little an impact on the land as we possibly can.
Please Don’t wee (or worse) on the ground and never leave a tent behind.
Love Who You Are
You are welcome as you are and you should treat others with the same respect. Festivals are a place to make new friends and you play a big part in making it a fun experience for all.
Own Your Decisions
Do the usual things, drink water, wear sunscreen, bring clothes for all weathers, and use them all at the right moments! Make informed decisions and don’t overdo it.
If you’ve taken something and you’re feeling unwell, overwhelmed or scared, head to Medical and Welfare and our teams will look after you with zero judgement.
Remember, the welfare team is there to help you, not to tell the police.
Dance Like No One’s Watching
Remember festivals are a place to make new friends and have a great time, so dance like no one is watching, because they probably aren’t. Even if they are, who cares…
Look After Yourself
We want you to have a great time, but please don’t put yourself at a risk of harm.
Please pay attention to and abide by our prohibited items list
If you’re found to be in possession of any prohibited items or illegal substances, you will be asked to leave the festival.
Everyone deserves to have fun and enjoy themselves at Boardmasters but we have a zero tolerance policy towards anti-social behaviour, vandalism, assault of any kind, harassment, racism or discrimination.
The safety of our Boardmasters attendees is our utmost priority.
To ensure a secure environment, we will conduct searches upon your arrival at the festival.
Please be aware that searches are a condition of entry to the festival. You will be searched each time you re-enter the site.
Boardmasters offers an amnesty point which will allow you to dispose of any illegal or prohibited items without question or consequence.
After the point of amnesty if you are found with illegal or prohibited items you may be denied entry and legal action may be taken.
Drug detection dogs are in operation at the festival and will be on all entry gates.
Boardmasters operate a zero tolerance drugs policy.

Day Ticket Holders are not permitted to bring alcoholic drinks into the Main Arena.
Weekend Camping Ticket Holders 18+ are permitted to bring alcohol to site but must comply with the following restrictions:
We have a strict no glass policy – decant any liquids before you arrive.
One person is permitted to bring 24 cans of beer/lager/cider/alcopops OR 2 non-glass bottles of wine. No straight spirits.
Alcohol is only allowed on first entry to the campsite and cannot be brought into the main arena.
Alcohol will be on sale at the event. You must be 18+ with Photo ID, it’s illegal to buy for someone under 18. We operate a Challenge 25 policy at all bars, accepted forms of ID are passport, driver’s licence or ID containing a PASS logo.
